What’s the most important resource that is at the disposal
of an Interior designer? It’s not the deep pockets of the customer or the fancy
and eye catching material he can access, the most important resource that an
interior designer needs is space. Space as such seems like a physical entity
which has limited dimensions but for an interior designer, space is a multi
dimensional element and it’s not a mere physical entity. Space is an aspect of
the mind, a dynamic entity which transcends the touch and feel senses of
limited imagination.
SMPS is a specialist in handling projects in the public
domain and thus there is a certain amount of legacy which every interior
designing projects brings with it self. But the ultimate product which comes
out after a rendezvous with SMPS, transcends the perceived conservativism that
is associated with governmental institutions and reaches a fine tuning which
will seem like a romance with modernity yet being true to its value!
SMPS’s interior designing is an art embracing value
engineering. Every dimension inside a public space or a governmental office has
to be true to its function and also to the stakeholders of that space. The
space is used by general public & also by the employees and thus it has to
be a living entity which interacts and if possible inspire. Keeping this in
mind SMPS designs each and every space in an artful manner which can create a
sense of luxury and also stay focused on the functionality of the space.
When SMPS claims that it has more than 30 years of
experience in handling interior designing projects for public entities, what it
actually claims is that it knows its business in its true sense. Any space can
be decked up to look fanciful if enough resources are poured in, but its only
experience which will determine how we achieve the purpose with the least
amount of resources. Every quotation coming out of the desk of SMPS is value
engineered to reduce resource wastage to the maximum. Being an accomplished
player in dealing with governmental institutions, SMPS tries its best in
refining the value delivery by understanding the governmental processes and the
spirit behind it.
Dealing with the governmental structures or ideas is a dance
with its legacy and to still bringing about modernity is an artful process. It
requires patient understanding of the legacy so that there is continuity with
change without any superficial discontinuities which don’t lead to any value
creation. The essence of our spirit can be best captured in the words of D V
Gundappa which goes as follows: -
"ಹೊಸ ಚಿಗುರು ಹಳೆ ಬೇರು ಸೇರಿರಲು ಮರ ಸೊಬಗು....."
(A tree look magnificent only if has tender leaves with old
and deep roots)

Vidhana Soudha’s Room no. 313 Interior Designing
and Execution (Bangalore)
It’s the power center of Karnataka, as it’s the
Chief Minister of Karnataka’s office. This is one of SMPS’s legacies from 2007
which can be termed as a landmark project, not in terms of the project size but
in terms of the ideas which are still on display. A much adored project which
has won many accolades had covered all dimensions from flooring, renovations
with compartmentalization and interior amenities. The aesthetic beauty of this
project can only be quantified by the charm it spells on the chief beholder
himself (CM, Karnataka)!
-
MS Building’s Interior Designing and Execution
(Bangalore)
The expanse of this project was huge as it
covered 3 governmental departments and involved a legacy structure which had to
be modernized with great care. Handling the governmental processes was the key
element in the successful completion of this project as it involved multiple
decision makers and approvers during the course of the project. Despite of all
the lengthened processes, SMPS completed this project without any delays or
lacunae. The sense of modernity which SMPS was able to inject in to this old
governmental structure has many admirers and thus has been a SMPS’s legacy from
2009.
-
Administrative Training Institute (Mysore)
This is a project which stands as a recognition
of our quality of work. Like in any field winning isn’t a big deal but
maintaining the same standard throughout is a mark of excellence. SMPS was able
create a world class facility for the administrative training by bringing the
best that was needed and the result is a legacy which in itself is an
advertisement for our work.
-
Karnataka Bhavan renovation and modernization
(New Delhi)
This was a project which tested SMPS’s
perseverance in every domain. Spread across 3 Karnataka Bhavan facilities in
different locations, it was a project which involved intense project management
in terms of human and material resource management. The facilities are used by
the elite of the society and thus it was scrutinized in detail. In every
miniscule detail SMPS’s quality is there for public display in the country’s
capital city.

National Center for Biological Sciences
Auditorium Interior design execution(Bangalore)
The latest in the legacy of our insight on the
inside, the execution of the interior design in the 3 Auditoriums of NCBS was a
process intensive project. The level of project monitoring was a notch above
all other projects because of the institution’s internal processes and yet the
level of outcome has been truly world class without a single schedule being
missed. This project is a one of a kind in Bangalore and may be a
destination for learning for interior designers of the future.
